Sometimes when I'm creating a website design I get inspiration from other websites. I'll study pages carefully to figure out which subtleties draw me to a particular design. Many times this will come down to what's called the typography. Typography is the way text appears on a page. It's more than just a font, or size, typography is the sum total of all these tweaks combined.
One of the common things I notice about good looking typography is letter spacing. That's the distance between each letter or text. By reducing or increasing the amount of space between the letters in a line of text you can give a webpage a dramatically different look and feel. For this reason we've introduced letter spacing to the editor.
There are two places in the editor where you can adjust letter spacing. The first way is to click within a text box and select the text for which you'd like to adjust the letter spacing. With the text selected click the down arrow on the ride side of the text editing toolbar to display advanced options. Next, click on the letter spacing icon and then choose whether to increase or decrease the letter spacing.
The second place you can adjust the letter spacing in the WebStarts editor is from the style manager. You can access this by clicking the design icon from the left side bar and then choosing to edit the text styles. Select the text style tag you'd like to edit and then once again click for advanced options and adjust the letter spacing accordingly. By editing the letter spacing in this section you're creating a default property associated with each text style. So when you apply a style tag to text on your website the properties you selected, including letter spacing, will be applied. In the end this will save you time and hassle.
