Mobile Ads Are Catching On Thanks To Facebook

mobile ads

Emarketer says mobile ad spending increased by over 180% in the last year. Leading the charges has been the social network giant Facebook. Facebook's new mobile ad platform is being considered the primary reason mobile ad spending has increased from just $1.45 billion in 2011 to $4.06 in 2012. Facebook grew their mobile ads platform from zero in 2011 to over $340 million in 2012. Facebook is projecting nearly $1 billion in mobile ad sales in 2013.

Despite Facebook's massive mobile advertising growth Google continues to control the lion's share of the market. Google mobile ads are said to have accounted for a whopping $2.17 billion of mobile ad spending in 2012.

Twitter was also able to get in on the mobile ad growth party going from zero dollars in 2011 to over $350 million in 2012. Despite the fantastic growth across the board for all these companies mobile ad spending continues to be only a small fraction of the complete online ad spending pie. Emarketer says the total ad spend on mobile was just 2.4% of the overall online ad spending market.
