How To Make a Resume Website

Jobs are getting harder and harder to come by in this economy. How do you stand apart from other people looking for the same position as you? Sure, you've tried to meet your potential employers face to face, given them a resume, and made a follow up call but have you considered building a free website to show off your resume? Building a website to show off your resume can be a great idea. Your potential employers will see that you care about your reputation and you are up to date with technology. Just the fact that you are doing something different than the next guy should be enough reason to get one. A website for your resume can also be a very helpful tool for your potential employers. If someone can log onto your website and quickly see your picture, your portfolio, and your experience, they are likely going to retain more information than if they had just seen your information on a boring sheet of paper. Here are a few tips for creating your resume website: 1. Keep it simple. This is my advice for most websites and this one is no exception. Your potential employer may or may not be tech savvy so you want to make the website as easy to digest as possible. I suggest using your name and title at the top of the page, personal and contact information, followed by education, work experience, and then references. 2. Provide multiple means of contact with you. The whole idea of making this thing run online is so that someone can contact you. If someone has a hard time getting a hold of you, then its all for naught. I would put my phone number and email address on every single page of the website. I would make large links that say 'contact me' on every page. Also, you can even put a contact form on your site so that someone does not have to go through the trouble of giving you a call or sending you an email. They would just enter an email address and some comments, click submit, and thats it. 3. Make a Great Looking Design Of course you want your website to look good but I'm going to challenge you to make it look great. There are plenty of designs to start out with on WebStarts and there are tons of design blogs and examples designs out there on the web to model your website after. http://youtu.be/PY2fvPg2KIA If you make a website for your resume, you are just one step above the competition and that much more likely to get noticed and get the position you're looking for.
