In Part 1 of this series on how to plan a website we covered some of the basic things you'll want to have on your homepage like your phone number. In this article I'll share with you some ideas that will help support your homepage and your contact page.
A lot of people have a hard time coming up with content for their website. They know what the goal of their website is but they're not sure what to talk about. Having a website with very little content can make a visitor think the site is incomplete and possibly damage your credibility. So what other types of things can you put on your site to make it look credible and full?
One of the things I like to include on the websites I build is an about page. It's more intuitive for people to do business with a person face to face. It makes them feel like they know the person and if they have problems or questions they'll be there to answer them. On the internet it's not likely you'll get the chance to speak with your site visitors face to face. Therefore you have to do everything you can to make them feel comfortable on your website.
Your about page is a great opportunity to humanize your website and create some credibility, as well as some additional content. The about page should tell a story about how you got started. Ask yourself... What gave you the initial idea? What were some of the challenges you overcame to get to the place you are now? What were some of the things that motivated you to create your business, organization, or website? You can get plenty of content for your website by providing answers to these questions.
It's also a good idea to include a photo of your and your team. This will further make the human connection between you and your site visitors. Have some fun with it and build out profiles for each of your team members. You'd be surprised how excited people are to talk to someone on the phone who they've seen featured on their website.
If you're still looking for ideas on how to fill up your homepage you can use some of the about content. In addition to that you can include things like testimonials from satisfied customers, logos from some of the brands you may be working with, latest news and information about your business. All these things will help add credibility to your site and make it look complete.
By now you should have enough good ideas to create plenty of great content for your website and have a plan to get it all into place. However, if it's just too much work don't forget you can always hire an expert designer from WebStarts to do the work for you for a reasonable fee.
