What's the point of having a website if nobody every comes to it? Getting people to come to your website is the key to making money online. The best way to get people to come to your website is by getting your site ranked high in Google's search results. Here are the 3 basic steps to making sure your site is ranked on Google.
Step 1. Keyword Research
If you aim at nothing, you're bound to hit it. Before you start optimizing your website for search engines you need to know the keywords and phrases people use to find your products and services online. This should be more than just the name of a product or your company.
Here's a simple exercise you can do to make a list of keywords and phrases people use to find your products and services. Start by making a list of all the keywords you'd use to search for your company online then ask your friends and family which one's they'd use. Once you've compiled this list, put it into Google's Keyword Planner and have it spit out even more suggestions. By this time you should have a long list of keywords to target.
The most important keywords will probably have the most searches and be most relevant to your product. If at this point you can't determine which are the money makers, consider opening a Google Adwords account. You can use a small advertising budget to give you a clear understanding of which keywords are worth your time.
Step 2. Include The Most Important Keywords In Your Page Title
Your page title is the blurb of text that appears in the browser tab. Google use's the page title as the bold, blue link we're drawn to when skimming search results. The ideal title should have a couple of your most important keywords, be in natural language, and compel someone to click on your link.
Step 3. Include The Most Important Keywords In Your Page Content
Just like putting keywords in your page title you'll need it in the content section of your page. That means you'll need to work those keywords into the basic text that appears on your page. Be careful when doing this however. If Google think you're trying to spam their search engine they'll rank you lower than competitors.
Overall getting search engine ranking can be a long and somewhat complicated process. These are just a few of the basic things you can do to give your site a fighting chance.
