When you build a website, it may time to settle on a name for your business. Choosing a name for your business or website should not be taken lightly. It is going to be the very first impression for most of your customers and it should give them the right picture of who you are or who you'd like to be. There are also some other, less obvious factors to think about when choosing a business name. I'm going to go over a few things regarding your business name.
Here are a few things to consider_
1. Consider longevity
You need to make sure your name will work for as long as possible. Sure your business does consulting, paralegal, party catering, lawn services, and heavy equipment rental but you need to choose one, maybe two things to focus on and put into a name. "Dave's consultant, catering, and heavy equipment rentals" doesn't sound very professional but "Dave's Consulting" does. You should consider the focus and the future of your company when deciding which elements of your business you wish to include in the name of the business.
2. What will people think when they hear your name?
When someone shares, by word of mouth, your website or business, what are they going to say? Is the customer going to be embarrassed to say your name? Are they going to be proud of the business that they are supporting? What is the other person going to hear? Word of mouth advertising is extremely valuable and you want to encourage people do it so make your business sound great.
3. Can you find a matching domain name?
Since you're here, you're probably going to create a website. If you are lucky enough to have a domain name that matches your business name, then that would be very beneficial to you. If your business name is 'ABC Shirts' and your domain name is 'greatshirtstobuy.us', there is going to be some confusion. Even if it means tweaking your business name a little bit, I highly recommend it so you can get the domain name to match your business name.
4. Is it unique?
You want your business to stand out from the crowd and that begins with the name of your business. Research your competition or similar businesses in different areas for inspiration. If someone remembers your business before your competitor, then you have a huge advantage.
So consider those main points before you build a website, choose a domain name, and choose a business name.
