There's a great new way to create a custom search engine that will allow your visitors to search only the pages of your website. It's created by a company named swiftype and it's available to use with your website for free. Here are step by step instructions how you can create a search engine for your site and add it through your WebStarts account.

Step 1_

Go to Swiftype.com and sign up for an account. Be sure to login.

Step 2_

Give your search engine a name and enter the domain name of your website and then click create search engine. It will take several minutes for Swiftype to crawl all the pages of your website.

Step 3_

Now that you've created your search engine click the install tab and copy and paste the search engine code onto your website through the WebStarts page editor. You can do this by logging into your WebStarts account and choosing the page you'd like to add the search engine to.

Some of the nice features about Swiftype's site search are the ability to customize the ranking of your search results and also the ability to see which keywords your site visitors are searching for. You can find these features under the analytics and results controls tabs within your Swiftype account.
