Keyword research and keyword placement are two extremely important things regarding your website's search engine placement. Search engines are looking for content rich pages. When you are trying to get higher on the search engines for specific keywords, you absolutely need to have those keywords on your site.
So what is keyword density? Keyword density is the percentage of times a keyword or phrase appears on a web page compared to the total number of words on the page. In order to know how often your keywords appear on your page, you need to make this calculation. I've found a tool that will do this for you.

With this tool, you can enter any URL and it will return all of the keywords you have on that page and the amount of times they appear on the page. Check that number against the total amount of words on that page and you'll have a great idea of how keyword dense your page is. I, personally, recommend hovering around 5% keyword density. You don't want to go too crazy and seem like a spammy website and you want to have enough keywords on the page for Google to see that you are relevant.
With this free website tool, you will be able to quickly calculate the keyword density for your website so you know where you have too few or too many keywords. Use this when optimizing your pages for the search engines and watch the traffic roll in. Don't forget to create a free website using WebStarts as well!
