Broken links are hyperlinks on your website that lead to nowhere. You click the link and find nothing. This could be a blank page, a 404 error, or anything else. Basically, these links are bad.
Broken links are bad for a couple of reasons. Of course they are bad for your website visitors because they cannot get where they wanted to go. They clicked a link and now find themselves at a dead end. Another reason they are very bad for your website is the search engines. When search engines index your website and find broken links, they take that into account and it is a negative mark on your website's reputation. This is because Google wants to link to reputable websites. If your website is linking to a bunch of non-existent pages, Google believes that you are not keeping up with your website and therefore are less reputable than the next website that does not have broken links.
So you know that broken links are a bad thing. How do we find them without manually clicking every link on every one of your pages?
