Have you ever used a service like Google Images? Many search engines now feature the ability to search specifically through images. Image search is a relatively untapped resource you can use to drive more traffic to your website. In this article I'm going to provide you with step by step instructions on how you can use the images on your website to drive more traffic to your website using WebStarts.
Step 1_ Identify the keyword or keyword phrase you'd like to target with your image. For example_ Let's say you're selling an iPad and you have a photo of it on your website. You'll probably want to target search phrases like "ipad", "ipad 2", "apple", etc.
Step 2_ Use your keyword or keyword phrase in the file name of your image and use dashes to separate the words. So using the example of an iPad let's assume you've decided to target the keyword phrase "apple ipad 2". You would want to name your image file something like Apple-iPad-2.jpg
Step 3_ After you've uploaded your image to your website through the WebStarts file manager and placed it on your webpage add an ALT tag to it. You can add an ALT tag by selecting the image and clicking on the "ALT tag" icon which appears when the image is selected. Again you'll want to use your targeted keyword or keyword phrase as your ALT tag.
Step 4_ Submit a direct link and description of your image to social bookmarking and new services like Digg.com, Delicious.com, Mixx.com, and more. This will help your images get indexed by search engines and provide some relevant content which support the image name and ALT tag.
