5 Helpful WebStarts Design Tips

Here are 5 helpful design tips that make WebStarts powerful enough for professionals and easy enough for everyone.

1. Nudging

To give your website a sharp, professional look it's important to have symmetry. That means every object on a page should be aligned with another object. To help ensure every object on the page gets to the right place we created something called "nudging". Nudging will let you move an object a single pixel at a time, or ten pixels at a time in any direction using the arrow keys on your keyboard. To nudge an object one pixel all you have to do is click on the object to select it, and tap the arrow keys on your keyboard. To nudge an object ten pixel at a time you do the exact same thing but while holding down the shift key.

2. Selecting Multiple Objects

Every once in a while you'll want to move multiple objects on your webpage at the same time. This comes in handy when you need to make some space in the middle of your page to insert new content. To select multiple objects at the same time you simply click on each object while holding down the shift key.

3. Copying and Pasting

An easy way to duplicate objects in WebStarts is by using the copy and paste functions. Let's say you want to keep your header image in the same location at the top of each page. All you have to do is click on it, copy it to your clipboard, change the page you're editing and paste. The object will appear on your new page in the same location where you copied it from.

4. Undo and Redo

We all make mistakes but correcting them with WebStarts is easy. If you ever accidentally move an object, make a typo, or any other mistake all you have to do to go back is click the "Undo" icon on the toolbar. If you want to restore a change you undid click on the "Redo" icon.

5. Select All

Sometimes you'll want to move or delete all the objects on your webpage at the same time. In those instances it's nice to use the "Select All" option. You can find the select all option by clicking on "File> Select All" on the page editor toolbar.
