An Easy Way To Resize Your Pictures

Tuesday, October 14th 2008, by Adam Barger

There's no doubt one of the most popular uses of the web has become the sharing of photos. The web is filled with applications designed for doing everything from hosting your photos, to creating slideshows, and adding effects. Despite all of this some of the most common questions I get are about how to get photos on the web.

Although just about everybody has a digital camera these days many of us still don't know how to get those photos of our cameras and on to our website. Unfortunately every digital camera is a little bit different so different cameras save photos as various file types and sizes. For example: It's not uncommon to take photos with a 6 megapixel camera. A 6 megapixel camera however provides a photo that is typically much too large for most web pages.

Another limitation of digital cameras is the file type. This seems to be particularly more complicated with camera phones. When you snap a photo your camera saves it as a particular file type. Web browsers like Internet Explorer and Firefox only display certain file types as images on the web. The most common are JPEG, GIF, and PNG. If at all possible you should set your camera to save your photos as these file types if you plan to upload them to the web.

In today's article I will tell you about a program you can use to resize your photos and save them as them as JPEGs all at once in a few easy steps.

Step 1: Go to download.com and do a search for PIXresizer

PIXresizer is a terrif - free software program that allows you to resize and covert your image file types all at once in a few easy steps. Once you're at donwload.com type 'PIXresizer' in to the search box and click 'Go'. Click on the PIXresizer result to download the program.

Step 2: Install PIXresizer on your computer.

After you've downloaded PIXresizer you'll need to complete the installation process. Find the PIXresizer installation file on your computer and run the file named setup.exe. Once you've completed the installation click on 'PIXresizer' from the list of programs on your computer to launch it.

Step 3: Choose the images you would like to resize and select your output options.

PIXresizer gives you the option to resize one file at a time or multiple files. Select the option that applies to your task. If you're uploading your photos to the web be sure to choose JPEG from the file type. You will also have the option to resize by both percentage and by pixel.

After you photos have been resized you can upload them to your WebStarts site and add them to your web pages. Navigate to your page editor view and click 'Insert' and then 'Image'. You can upload multiple images at once by clicking the 'Bulk Uploader' link.

Once your images are uploaded you can drag and drop them where you would like them to appear on your page.
